Go the wrong way

I decided we needed to walk the wrong way in the zoo.

Zoos have a specific layout just like supermarkets. There’s a path they want you to travel. Last week I took some time off from work and took my two oldest to the zoo. We’ve been there 100 times before but this time we went the “wrong way” because as we walked into the main entrance I took a deep breath and felt empowered in that moment. It felt like a moment I needed to pay attention to. It felt rich. It felt right. “Samuel! Caroline! We’re walking the other way today guys! Let’s go see the tiger first.”

It felt awkward. It felt like we were going the wrong way. It also felt different, rich and new. Going the wrong way can be the right thing at the zoo. I’m trying it in other places in my life now. You interested in joining me?

As long as you are not talking about the interstate, I’m in!

I’m in. I have gone againt the designed flow a few times at theme parks. You can feel the the resistance as you make the decision. I love that feeling!

@TreySmith It’s fun to pursue it.

Try walking backwards at IKEA, it is almost impossible.

@ontargetcoach Ouch. Never been but from what I’ve heard of IKEA you get a pass.

What would our parents, leaders, teachers and other strict rule followers think of us, going the wrong way? I love it!!

I love that you chose to take a different approach at the zoo. Sometimes you just need to go against the flow to see things in a new light.

Andy:
Great blog. I love going the opposite direction of most. I am a real estate investor in Nashville. To prove a point that it is a good thing to go the opposite way is this… in real estate if everyone is buying, we’re selling and if people are selling we’re buying. It still amazes me – the deals we get by going opposite the other sheep.
Thanks for your confirmation that it’s OK to be different.
Cheers,
Connie Williams
