How I'm Confronting My Weaknesses by Going Through The Living Forward Process

Books are generous things. A team of people put hundreds of hours and often decades of experience into one book. We click a button and get it delivered in two days or sometimes instantly.

Accept it or Reject it?

Then we make a decision. Will we accept it or will we reject it? Every time we open a book, we get the chance to open ourselves to its message.

Living ForwardI’m opening myself up to Living Forward by Michael Hyatt and Daniel Harkavy. I’ve paid for my copies so don’t take this endorsement as a friend promoting his friends. This is someone believing and investing in a proven path.

I Need Direction

I am a man in need of direction. That may sound weak to you but it’s not. I have weaknesses, we all do. There is wisdom in knowing you need direction. There is strength in knowing your weaknesses. This book is going to help me take the steps to seek the direction I need. It will not tell me where to go; it’s not that kind of book. This is a choose your own adventure book.

The keywords are YOUR and ADVENTURE. This looks like another business self-help book but what I think and hope it is, is a tool I can use to stop being a wandering generality and start being a man who lives with purpose and joy.

All that for $13. That’s a generous exchange.

I encourage you to get this book and then follow the steps it provides. It’s an easy read and a worthwhile process to walk through. If you follow Mike and Daniel’s advice you’ll end up with a map you can live by and revisit to tweak if necessary.

I’m 38, and I’m tired of drifting.

Average Isn’t A Worthy Goal

There are many things I do well. I provide tremendous value for my customers and I’m a good husband and father. The struggle is that good is average and average isn’t what we’re created to be.

I have a wonderful life, but God has more for me than I am experiencing and it’s not God’s fault I’m not experiencing everything He has for me. It’s time for me to stop drifting. My family deserves better. My friends deserve better. This world needs me at my best. I need to live a life I’m proud of.

Taking One Day

Monday I’m taking the entire day to go through the life planning process. One day that could help direct the rest of my days. That’s worth investing in for me and for you.

You're going to die so why not Die Empty? (Book Review)

Make your life easier, get every post sent to your inbox by clicking here.

die emptyGreat business books have two elements, heart and practicality. Todd Henry’s latest work Die Empty has ample portions of both. This is an impatient book. The title sounds desperate, a pleading with the reader to leave the earth empty of the creative abilities they have inside themselves. Todd then spends the book beautifully explaining why and then how to do it.

It’s irresponsible for writers to simply inspire people to action without giving them a roadmap to follow that action. Die Empty is part sermon part treasure map. He inspires the believers, those of us who know we have creative ability, and then he gives us instructions on how to achieve a life well lived.

This book is unafraid. Todd confronts the myth that no one on their death bed regrets working too much. He embraces work as a place where we find meaning and add value to the world.

Your job is a collection of activities that allow you to add value to the world.

You may in fact dislike this book before you embrace it. Early on Todd make it clear that the key to long term impact is embracing discomfort and the unknown, a message that is of course difficult to live out.

The key to long-term success is a willingness to disrupt your own comfort for the sake of continued growth. To that end, how you choose to stare down uncertainty is often then determinant of success or failure.

todd-henryDie Empty is not a feel good book nor is it a guilt inducing lecture. Die Empty is a strong word of encouragement and a detailed map for those of us who want to change the world with our words, our art and our leadership.

One day will be my last day and I plan to die empty. (Tweet That) This book has helped inspire and instruct me on how to do that. I hope you’ll read it and die empty too.

When Jesus became my everything

My friend Mary DeMuth has a new book called “Everything” and when she asked her fans/readers to submit a short video explaining when Jesus had become their everything I thought I was going to talk about when I was 15 and first became a Christian at a Young Life camp in New York called Lake Champion. I didn’t talk about that though because much more recently I think Jesus really became my everything.
