The Best Leather Cases for Your iPhone (Michael Hyatt giveaway)

Apple did a lousy job designing the latest iPhone. Yes, I just said that. It’s beautiful, functional and I love it but it’s practically designed to be dropped. Sure it’s gorgeous but it’s also slippery because of it’s rounded edges. Within minutes of owning it I knew I needed a great looking and functional case.

I searched for a great iPhone case and I found Kavaj. A company founded by two German friends who met in college and now ship great cases all around the world for a wide variety of devices.

Michael Hyatt Uses Kavaj and So Can You

I talked my Tennessee neighbor and fellow Kavaj case user Michael Hyatt into signing a congac Dallas case for an iPhone 6 to give away to a lucky winner. He’s partial to the Tokyo model as am I but I switch between the Tokyo and Dallas throughout the week.

To become eligible for the autographed iPhone 6 case use the link below to tweet about this post so others can learn about the great cases Kavaj makes. I’ll pick a winner and tell them via Twitter on Friday December 12, 2014.

[Tweet “This is the company pros like @MichaelHyatt trust to protect their iPhones. @Kavaj (REVIEW)”]

Save $5

All Kavaj cases are sold through Amazon and you can get a $5 coupon by signing up for their newsletter at the top of any page on their web site.

How to display your iPhone and iPad on your desktop computer

Have you ever wanted to share something from your iOS device to create a tutorial or simply show people functionality during a live presentation? There’s a program build just for you and it’s called Reflector.

Air Play Is The Key
Apple built in a function called Air Play into its devices and a program called Reflector uses that function to display your iOS devices on your desktop or laptop computer. This program works for PC and Mac. Since the devices need to be on the same wifi network make sure you’ve set them up appropriately before you try to connect via Reflector.

Recording built in
Reflector even has screen recording built in so you can record whatever is on your monitor.

Reliability
A few times I’ve tried to connect my iPad and it says it’s “air playing” but I can’t see it on my screen but after restarting my iPad the issue goes away. Here’s a video and some step by step instructions.

Keyboard Shortcuts for an iPhone

Last weekend I attended Dave Ramsey’s one-day Entreleadership event and then Jon Acuff’s Quitter Conference. I was tweeting almost as much as Guy Kawasaki does so I wanted to make creating the hashtags for the event easier. If you own an iPhone there are keyboard shortcuts built into the operation system. If you find yourself typing the same phrases or words then this tip will save you a ton of time. My favorite shortcuts are long URL’s, any hashtag because the # symbol takes three taps to get to, and phrases used in texting like “I’ll be there in five minutes.” Here’s how you set them up.

Here are the hashtags I want to create:

Go to Settings and then tap the General option:

Scroll down to find the Keyboard option:

Find the Shortcuts option:

Choose the + symbol to add a new shortcut or search for any current ones using the search field. You can also swipe any of them to the left to delete or choose “Edit” to tweak existing shortcuts.

Type in the word or phrase you want to create with your shortcut in the first line. I have some shortcuts that are over 100 words. If you have a really long shortcut phrase then create it in a different program on the phone (Notes, Evernote) and then copy and paste it into this field. You can even create it on your computer and email it to yourself if that’s easiest. Just don’t limit yourself on the length of the shortcut based on the size of the input field on this screen.

Interestly you don’t have to enter a shortcut at all unless you want to. I encourage you to do so but the OS is smart enough to know your phrase when you start to type it.
