Yesterday my son put his shirt over his head and made a “helmet” out of it. Then he yelled, “Dad! Can I be Darth Vader?” Peeking into the next room to see why he was asking me for permission to be Darth Vader it quickly made sense. I replied, “Yeah buddy, you can be Darth Vader.”
Samuel yelled to his sister, who was sitting three feet away, “Sissy, I’m Darth Vader!”
My son wanted to be someone exciting, interesting and powerful. Samuel was missing one thing, permission. It’s my goal to teach him that he doesn’t need permission. I hope that’s a goal you share for yourself too.
The world tells us we have to ask for permission. I’m telling you differently. Take permission. Be who you want to be and declare it to the world. And may the force be with you.
