Why I should be very, very happy
I’m #1 in Business Leadership on Kindle and in the top ten in a few other categories. Dave Ramsey plugged my book on his radio show this week when my wife and I called to scream we were debt free (Listen here). Crystal Paine, perhaps the most popular “mommy blogger” in the world invited her readers to journey through the book for 30 days. I’ve sold 3,824 copies. In the last 48 hours alone I’ve netted $1,580. So why am I afraid?
Bombarded by lies because of success
Resistance tells us the lies that keep us from becoming who God wants us to be. The job of the resistance is to lie so we stop becoming what we can become. He’s real and he’s crazy smart. Steven Pressfield coined the term “The Resistance” and wrote about it beautifully in The War of Art and Turning Pro. I’ve never felt the resistance on this side though, the side where you’re #1. So what does the resistance tell you when you’re doing well?

Here are the things the resistance has told me in the last 48 hours alone.
- Your book still has typos Andy.
- People aren’t going to take it seriously.
- It’s all going to stop tomorrow. No more sales. No more reviews. No more rankings.
- You’re not really an author.
- Your cover could be better.
- You bribed people into getting all of those reviews.
- You got lucky.
- Your next book will fail. You’ll never be able to follow up this success.
- You sold your books because of other people, not because it’s good.
- That money’s not real. Amazon won’t send you that money.
- You can’t teach anyone else how to do what you did. It was luck, not a system.
- You’re going to start getting a lot of negative reviews.
- This will be your best selling book. None of them will ever do as well. This was your moment of glory and now it’s over.
- You shouldn’t write anymore books.
- Don’t help those people who ask advice on how to sell books on Kindle because you got lucky.
- Don’t tell people about the fears you feel. They’ll think you’re weak, kindof pathetic and above all they’ll realize you’re a fake.
- You don’t get up early every day so you should take the book down.
How often does the resistance tell the truth?
48 hours. I’ve heard all of those things in 48 hours. Guess how many of them are true? One. One of the things the resistance said was true because the resistance is only good at lying. The only one that is true is the first one. The book does have typos.
The resistance told me to not write because it wouldn’t be successful. Now he’s telling me to not write because the next one won’t be AS successful. He’s desperate! He’s a liar and his only purpose is to destroy good things.
