Side projects and hobbies are important – “You don’t try to make money or get famous off it, you just do it because it makes you happy. A hobby is something that gives but doesn’t take.”
Insp – Don’t worry about unity from piece to piece – What unifies all of your work is the fact that you made it. (Marriage, faith, business) – The Take Permission Community
Prac – Take time to be bored (67)

The Secret – Do good work and share it with people
Insp – When you’re unknown there’s nothing to distract you from getting better.
Prac – Share your dots, but don’t connect them. – You don’t…(85) Artists aren’t magicians, there’s no penalty for revealing your secrets (Martha Stewart)

Be nice. (the world is a small town)
Insp – You can’t go looking for validation from external sources.
Pract – The best way to make friends on the internet is to say nice things about them – Archie/Linchpin podcast

Be boring. (It’s the only way to get the work done)
Prac #1 – Find a flow…”The solution (124)
Prac #2 – Eat breakfast… (120)

Creativity is subtraction
Prac – The right constraints…(138)

Buy this book.

It’s fun to hold, to interact with and to do. This is an action book. It’s like a comic book for creatives but you get to become a character in the story when you read it. You get to become the hero and bring who you are to the 10 things Austin talks about. It’s affirming, practical, butt kicking, human and most off all if you’re a willing reader and creative then it’ll help you have a happier and longer career making great stuff.
