On this episode of the Unofficial Linchpin podcast I talk with Michael Hyatt. He’s the author of the NYT best selling book Platform; Get noticed in a noisy world, a popular keynote speaker, he has a leadership role for the SCORRE and Launch Conferences. Mike is an equipper of writers and leaders through his blogging, products and teaching at MichaelHyatt.com.

I know you’re going to love this interview with Mike whether this your first time hearing from him or you’re a long time fan. In this 30 minute episode Mike talks about several topics publicly for the first time. We explored the blessings and curses of having a healthy on-line following and frankly I think it was a great conversation. If you have a question for me, feedback for this or other Linchpin episodes or have a guest you’d like for me to invite to be on the show call me at 615-200-TAKE or shoot me an email at [email protected]

WordPress blogging tip: Use fullscreen mode to write your posts

You will be distracted by something before you finish reading this post because that’s the way our brains work now. If that’s true then we all need things to help us stay focused. If you use WordPress as your platform for your web site then there’s a great option that provides a distraction free environment for you to write your content. You need to be in the HTML tab of your page or post and then you should see the “Fullscreen” button.

HTML mode shows fullscreen button

If you combine the fullscreen mode in WordPress with fullscreen mode for your browser (Cmd+Shift+F on a Mac) then you get a totally distraction free writing environment. Here’s what it looks like while I write this post.

Live off-line too

Remember to always have people in your life that you focus on more than your blog readers or customers.

I appreciate those who read this site, post comments and hire me to help get their message out through audio but no one is more important in my life than my family. That little boy just turned four. Today is his birthday party. He’s more important than any comment, tweet or mention. I’m not trying to look like a great dad, I’m just reminding you that your blog is not your life. Keep perspective. Live off-line too.

Jonathan Milligan: Blog coach – He's giving away free time so take it.

It seems so simple

Blogging seems so simple and that’s where people lose traction. They don’t do the little things that make blogs stick. They don’t do the research on keywords. They don’t think through their titles. They don’t add the right tags to their pictures and posts. They’re a lot like ME.

They’re smarter

There’s always someone who knows more than you. Instead of seeing them as competition try to work with that person.

Blog coach Jonathan Milligan has a group on the 48days.net network called Blogging Your Passion where he dispenses a lot of free advice about blogging.
