You want to be more organized and using Evernote is a great place to start. Evernote is the digital tool of choice for millions of moms and dads, business owners, college students, marketers, pastors, employees, salespeople, and entrepreneurs.   When you put information into Evernote you can forget about it. You can forget about it because Evernote will remember it for you. Evernote is best described as a brain. It remembers things for you.   If you want to simplify your life follow these steps when you start using Evernote.   To sign up for a free Evernote account click here. 1. Put Evernote everywhere. Download the Evernote app on your computer, phone (iOS, Android) and tablet. You will use it more often if you do, which is the key to Evernote’s power. The more you put into it the smarter it gets and the more organized your life becomes.
  2. Put everything you want to remember into Evernote. Start your Evernote journey by adding anything you can think of that you might want to recall later. Receipts, meeting notes, pictures of prices in a store, articles you want to use for research, and checklists of grocery items. If you might need something again put it in Evernote.
  3. Tag every note. Evernote keeps your notes in notebooks. 95% of my notes are in one notebook. Instead of creating lots of notebooks (think of them as folders if that helps), add tags to your notes. Tags are simply labels you attach to notes and each note can have multiple tags. I created this blog post and added the tags blogpost, product, evernote and to post. After I published the post I removed the tag to post and replaced it with posted. Tagging helps you categorize your notes so you can sort through them quickly when you retrieve information.
  4. Search Evernote using word association. You don’t have to remember what you put into Evernote. The next time I search for blog posts about Evernote that I’ve already published I’ll search for notes tagged blogpost, evernote, posted. That’s a lot faster than searching through old blog posts on my site or emails in my inbox.
  5. Track your personal life too. If you can use Evernote to store meeting notes then you can also use it to journal, store date night ideas for you and your spouse, your health insurance information, and pictures of your kids’ artwork. If you never want to lose a set of instructions and want a way to chronicle your kid’s development as an artist then Evernote can handle that. Evernote isn’t a business tool, it’s a brain. If you want to remember any piece of information put it in Evernote.
  6. Collaborate. If you’re not ready to invest in a project management system then use Evernote to create a checklist. To share that list you put the note in a new notebook and share the notebook with another Evernote user. This is free! You’ve now created a project management system using Evernote.
  7. Remember everything you see and hear. The next time you want to record the audio or a slide from a speech or presentation use Evernote. A single Evernote note can hold audio, images and text. Evernote is built to remember information so you don’t have to.
Remember, the key to getting the most out of Evernote is to use it as much as possible. You’ll have more peace of mind when you keep everything in one place and Evernote.   Stay tuned for more helpful Evernote posts coming your way in the coming weeks.
